Difference in names on marriage & childs birth certificates?

Hi all


I have obtained a copy of my 2 x gt grandfather Richard Henry Lewis birth certificate b.1875 in Kidderminster.  His parents were named as James Lewis & Ellen Lewis formally Jinks. 

So knowing this I searched for James & Ellen's marriage record on free bmd, and found one that seemed to match in 1874 in Dudley.  So I order that, which has now arrived.  Except the names are James Lewis & Elizabeth Jinks [not Ellen], with father called James Lewis & Richard Jinks.

So what I am asking is, is Ellen another form of the name Elizabeth?  or have I got the wrong marriage?   

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The 1881 shows mum as Ellen b 1854 Bilstone Staffs

James was b 1841 Kidderminster

Marriage certificate I have says registration district as Dudley 'Marriage solomized at parish church in the parish of Tipton in county of Stafford.

1861 entry shows her as Ellen aged 7 b Bilston - parents Henry & Ann.She has an 8yr old sister called Elizabeth b Wolverhampton

This Ellen married Edwin Stringer in 1884. Father listed as Henry. She also appears in 1871 still with her family.
This must be the poster's Ellen in 1871:

Can't see a birth/baptism for Ellen/Elizabeth also I can't see a Richard Jinks in Staffs.
Possibly she's illegitimate & made up his name.
