Stumped - advice needed(*Completed with thanks*)
« on: Wednesday 02 April 14 16:19 BST (UK) »
I know I cannot ask for a look-up on 1911 Census but have a problem. Are there any records of Census for Barry missing? Finally I have correct D/Cert for Lewis Thomas b. 1846 Penmark. Died 12th October 1919 age 72yrs at 20 George St, Barry. Son also named Lewis Thomas of The Cwm, Penmark was Informant.
I have searched and searched for Lewis Thomas (Father) on 1911 Census but cannot find him. Can anyone help please, if only a clue.
Son Lewis was living at 11 Beverley St, Barry at time of 1911 Census. He also had a son named Lewis who died 1918.
I am desperate to find the death of wife Margaret of Lewis Thomas Snr. (4 wrong D/Certs) and as Lewis was not at 20 George St, Barry on 1911 Census, where was he? If it says he was a Widower it would narrow down search, or perhaps Margaret was alive and with him.
Sorry to ramble on but hope someone can advise on problem. Thanks, Syljun
P.S. Lewis and Margaret living at 74 Queen St, Barry on 1901 Census. I have already followed all the children on 1911 Census.

You say that he was born in 1849- yet the 1901 census that you've found him on has his age as 52 ie born in 1849,which is why I couldn't see him on 1901 at first.

You probably need to widen the goalposts  ;D

What did he die of,could he have been in hospital or the workhouse maybe?
In which case he could be enumerated just by his initials.

Carol

Hi Carol, Lewis' age seemed to fluctuate on Census but D/Cert states 72yrs. Cause of death:-
Mitral Regurgitation - Anarsaca. I believe it is Heart Disease. Where died - 20 George St, Barry.

Margaret his wife was eleven years older than Lewis.

Any clue to locate him would be invaluable. Many thanks for replying. Syljun

So Margaret would have been born approx. 1835?

Which deaths have you ruled out?

Possibles in correct registration district for a death in Barry but are probably amongst the ruled out ones
 March 1904 of a 69 year old (11a 271)
June 1909 of a 74 year old (11a 219)

Hi, Yes Margaret was baptised 1835 Llancarfan.

In 2008 I applied to Barry Registry for Death Ceert. 1904 and was informed it was not her. Apparently a child of 1 yr who is buried at Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery, Barry.
I have also purchased four D/Certs with Cardiff Registration.
1906 -Age 71 - Pontypridd
1911 - Age 77 - Bridgend
1909 - 73 - Cardiff
1907 - 74 - Cardiff - This one was for Barry, but wrong one.

I have also had info. that says Margaret is not buried at Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery but Lewis is buried in Common Grave which surprised me knowing there were children still in area.
I believe from Index on Freebmd there is another Cardiff reg. 1904 for a Margaret Thomas and was hoping before sending for it some address to follow up.
Thank you for your time and interest. Syljun

Have now received info. from local Newspaper that the 1904 June entry is indeed for Margaret w/o of Lewis Thomas and is sending for D/Cert. Finally it seems the brickwall is crumbling.
Thank you everyone for your help interest and patience.
