Hello Jezzer

Looking on the Sussex Marriage Index CD,Peter Lavender & Elizabeth De Verrye married at Mayfield 6 Feb 1575/6.

There are only 8 " De Verrye " marriages on the CD.Elizabeth the earliest.

I cant find a Baptisum for her in Sussex,so maybe you need to look in other Counties.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful

Kind regards

Hi Jezzer,

Googling "DeVerrye" I see you've been stuck on this point for several years.

If Elizabeth was married in 1575 she probably was born in mid-1550's - a time when the churches of England were changing management so to speak.  Records may have been lost - accidentally or deliberately during the transition.

It's possible that Elizabeth and Peter were baptized in Roman Catholic churches.  Don't know where those records might be kept - or if they were simply folded into C of E records.  Maybe other Chatters can offer some info.

Good luck!

Jann
