Whelwrights in Devon
« on: Monday 07 April 14 18:21 BST (UK) »
My two times great grandfather was one Charles Helmore, who died of consumption in 1840 at the age of 33 - from death cert.  Apart from his marriage I can find nothing about him.  He was a wheelwright by trade and  I am wondering if there are any records around regarding wheelwrights in Devon,  that would help me on my way  He was married and left a widow and a five year old son.  Any pointers would be helpful I am sure

Hello & welcome.
You haven't given us much to go on but is he the Charles Helmore who married Mary Ann Pyne 1833 Exeter?
Is he father of Thomas Pyne Helmore b.1834 Exeter?
Are you looking for his parents?
Are you looking for apprenticeship indentures?

No I did not give too much information.  Sorry about  that.  Yes he married Mary Ann Pring Pyne and they had one son Thomas Pyne Helmore.  I have a lot of information about Thomas Pyne Helmore but can find nothing about his father Charles.  On Thomas' marriage certificate he is deceased and on Charles death certificate his profession is given as wheelwright. I thought that his indentures might help to get me to his parents.  Or anything other suggestions of routes I can follow, for I have run out of ideas.

Devon RO hold some apprenticeship indentures but it would mean going there to see them I'm afraid.
Seeing the marriage entry may give another Helmore witness or may give a Parish for him.
