Following on from the post from Dundee regarding Hiram's death in Narrandera, I wonder if this could be Mary?

I have only just found those Banns myself but I think Dundee was right in that John halket was a military pensioner and I was looking in the wrong areas and now you have found more info on Mary and it fits in as well as the line of descendants did come from Narrandera .                    Thankyou Daisy petal for your time    hall69au

I am still waiting for the Tasmanian archives for the info Dundee pointed out and hopefully that will answer some more questions as the Burnley marriage does fit in

The info came from Tasmanian archives regarding the colonial secretarys office and all it states is that John Halkett joined the police . I have also been sent info in that the ones from Burnley are not who I am looking for, so its back looking at where and when he married Mary Ann Broughton as it seems to be here in Australia at this stage

I don't know if the info I have is relevant...however I was researching the shipwreck of the ship America, which I believe transported your Ann Broughton to Hobart on 9th May 1831. The America was wrecked on "Wreck Island" off Yeppoon in Qld on 20th June 1831. It was in travelling from Hobart to Batavia after offloading the convicts in Hobart. On Wreck Island, the words: "The America June 1831" and "Mary Ann Broughton June 1831" were found inscribed. Also found were the soles of a childs shoes.
The crew of the America made it to Moreton Bay in a longboat, apparently all were saved. However, I have so far found no mention of a Mary Ann Broughton or a child amongst the survivors.
I am interested in who the Mary Ann Broughton was who inscribed her name, and the childs shoe soles...I don't know if it is connected...however it seems a little strange that a female convict by the name of Ann Broughton was supposedly offloaded at Hobart (transported for life) prior to the shipwreck. Is it possible your Ann Broughton (and child) actually stowed away, or somehow was aboard after Hobart? Just a thought! If you find out any info...I would love to know, as my interest is in the Mary Ann Broughton - shipwreck survivor! cheers klf

Ann BROUGHTON who arrived by the America in 1831 definitely stayed in Tasmania and served her time.  You can see her convict record here:

I think you will find that the wording on the second tree was just "Mary Ann Broughton" with no date.  Perhaps it was the name of a ship.

 Firstly thankyou once again to Dundee and Daisy petal for steering me in the right direction as the info they found was correct , it is the John Halket aboard the Blenheim in 1850 as a pensioner guard who previously was in the 78th foot regiment and the marriage banns from St Peters church in Burnley were positively correct for him as well now all I have to do is find where this new info will lead as well as trying to obtain John Halket's army records
