Seeking info on Frederic Iliffe Payne

I am seeking any info on Frederic(k) Iliffe Payne, possibly from Hampshire and probably died in the later part of WW1 between June 1917 & Mar 1918.
Have had no luck on freeBMD with  birth date with exact names, though there are plenty of Frederick Paynes listed.

This person is listed on my Grandmother's birth certificate  in 1918 as her father but as deceased already and had been an 'Army Pensioner' which i have been told may not necessarily mean he was over 65 yrs old but just retired from the Army. The mother was approx 27 yrs old so i expect him to have been of a similar age maybe.
Address at the time of birth registration was Eastlands, Blendworth Hampshire but probably meaning a cottage in the grounds of Eastlands House, Rowlands Castle Road.
Have searched for the name 'Iliffe' as a connection but with no joy.

I can`t find him listed in the WW1 death list ....have a look yourself...maybe I have missed something

Have you discounted this one:
RG12; Piece: 854; Folio: 112; Page: 31
This one was in the Royal Navy.
Maybe there was mistake & he was a Navy pensioner.
What's his wife's name?

I saw that one Jim ...and I immediately thought of - Hampshire - Portsmouth / Portsea - Naval - and wondered if he was in the Navy and not the Army... was he the husband of Edith Maud Payne from Chatham ,Kent ?
