Can anyone help?

I know that Harry was born as above; his Mum Emma Robinson died in the Hartley Wintney, Winchfield  Poor House in Feb 1909, and she may have died after childbirth, but this is just an idea.

I can find no birth certificate, and Harry was not in the census of 1901 with the rest of the family, (the only Harry Ellis born there in 1909 appears in the 1911 census with his parents.)

In 1914 his brother Francis Walter George Ellis gives Harry as his next of kin and as living in Glanville Road, Rochester, in Francis' joining up papers. I do not know how to search the 1911 census against an address?

Their father Walter Thomas Ellis is not clearly on any census return I can find for 1911, in Hampshire or Rochester or Kent.

Many thanks, K. :-X

If his mum was Emma Robinson wouldn't his birth be under Robinson?

There's a Harry Edgar W Robinson born Hartley W Dec 1908 - how old was your Harry?

Born dec 1908 would definitely fit the timescales I was thinking of.

You hadn't said when she married so I assumed she was an unmarried mother so the birth would be under her name.  If she married an Ellis before 1908 then of course birth should be under Ellis!

It was on the Free BMD index  :)

Yes.

Found Harry Edgar - he is with his grandparents in 1911; theses are not Emma Ellis (nee Robinson's parents).  A real mystery.

What do you know about him - just the reference to him as a brother in the next of kin bit?

Yes..and his address.

My uncle believes he was orphaned or given to another family member to look after.

Harry's father - Walter Thomas Ellis, also known as White, or even Hall came from Rochester

Is this the correct 1901?

Walter Ellis 36
Emma 40
Francis 8
William 3
Ernest 8 months

All children born in different places.

Would his brother have given Harry as next of kin rather than an older sibling?
If we're thinking Harry was born after 1901 then he would only be 13 at most in 1914.
