Conundrum

Could some one please help me.

I have a family, or two, in Cornwall.

The father is Thomas Stephens, and the wife is Ann Stephens. So far so good.
I have James Stephens baptised on 5 May 1776 at St Hilary
I have James Stephens baptised on 5 May 1776 at Marazion.

I have Margaret Stephens baptised on 27 Sep 1772 at St Hilary
I have Margaret Stephens baptised on 27 Sep 1772 at  Marazion.

I have Thomas Stephens baptised on 11 Aug 1765 at St Hilary
I have Thomas Stephens baptised on 11 Aug 1765 at Marazion

I have Abraham Stephens baptised on 20 Nov 1768 at St Hilary
I have Abraham Stephens baptised on 20 Nov 1768 at Marazion

I have looked at G*****le maps, and the two villages seem close together.
BUT would a family travel from one to the other, on the same day to have the child baptised in two churches, OR am I looking at two different families.

It is most confusing, and any help or ideas would be very gratefully accepted.

genechaser, thanks for that information.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it appears to me that the records are duplicates, Marazion
and St Hilary being the same parish.

Hi

Originally they were two separate parishes, the dioceses of Marazion was restructured. That was how St Hilary's records appear in two places. They would be part of the Bishops Transcripts along with all of the churches in that Dioceses.

Thanks for that genechaser.

It had me quite confused, as I saw on the maps that the two places were a few miles apart, and the thought the family would baptise at both places was what had me confused.

Once again, many thanks
