Shurmer family Bibury 1600's
« on: Saturday 12 April 14 04:03 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking in to members of the Shurmer family who lived in Bibury in the 1600 and 1700's

I have evidence of the following generations

Richard Shurmer (1618-1691)
John Shurmer (1641-1728)
John Shurmer (1670-1757)

The family then appeared to move to Withington, Gloucs where I have the following

John Shurmer (b,1702)
Solomon Shurmer (b,1742)
John Shurmer (1766-1839)

The family then crossed the border in to wiltshire, where they settled for several generations in Latton, near Cricklade.

I am a direct descendant of these Shurmer lines.

Can anyone provide from Bibury and Withington Parish records any information on these Shurmers please?

Thank you in advance

Colin

Hi Colin,

I don’t have access to Parish records yet however I am a direct descendant of the Shumer’s in Latton, Cricklade.

John Shurmer (1766-1839) was my great great grandfather

If you’re looking for specific Parish records I won’t be able to help at the moment but that’s not to say I don’t have information that could be of some use to you.

To be honest there could be information that you have that I don’t.

Here to help if you need it.

Thanks,

Hello Colin
I pick up and put down family research, picked it up again as off to Gloucester for four days in July, for the first time, to do photographic social history of my Shurmers, their schools, homes and workplaces (or workhouses and jails !)

I am descended from John Shurmer B. 1500? in Purton, John Shurmer B 1526 Purton married Margaret Gleed: John Shurmer B 1586 Purton married Denise Telling and then Joan Stinchcombe, Richard B 1618, Bap in 1619 but died in 1691 in Bilbury married a Margaret:  then John B 1641 Bilbury married a Catherine.   There was then William, Richard and Joseph all in Bilbury, then the venue changes to Notgrove  with John B 1772 who married Dinah Clark, Thomas married Priscilla Ivin, John Ivin married Sarah Court, Edwin married Ann Stevens, then my Grandad married Emma Jane Empson, my dad Jack Empson married Mary Bridget McConville and then there was me !!

Hope that helps you a little
Regards
Pat Littlewood
That may help you

Pat
Thank you very much for the additional Shurmer information,

My earliest Shurmer with documented evidence is Solomon Shurmer b 1742 Withington, Gloucs

Having a very quick look at your list and my tree, it may be that Solomon was also a descendant of your
 John B 1641 Bilbury married a Catherine

I will delve further over in time to find any documentart evidence of the connection.

in the mean time

thanks you again

bets wishes
