Marriage Index - Page Number Error
« on: Saturday 12 April 14 10:06 BST (UK) »
There is a marriage index record for a Henry Cowlishaw in Rotherham, Q4 1838 but there are no other names associated with the Volume and Page Number 22/1111. I believe the page number is incorrect and it should be 411.
22/411 has names for 3 males and 4 females. I believe that the marriage was between Henry Cowlishaw and Lucy Ramsden but would like to prove it.
How should I go about ordering the marriage record, which Vol/Page Numbers should I use?
Any help gratefully received.

There is a note on the entry information for Henry Cowlishaw that the expected page range for this district is 401 to 447.  The Volume and Page Number 22/1111 is what the person typing the copy of the original page though it was. As this is in the official GRO Index you should be able to order it, and let the GRO sort it out  :)

Hi

QtrDec 1838 Rotherham 22 411 looks a distinct possibility with 4 females and 3 males listed . . . . .

Looking at 1841 census may give you (clues to) the other link(s).

Thanks both, it was that 1841 Census record that put me on to the Henry - Lucy connection.

Hi Andy

Whenever you order certs from the GRO always enter the details exactly as it is written in the index, not the transcriptions, even if you think there may be an spelling mistake or number error.

Please don't second guess what the entry should be as your application may be rejected as a 'no match' and you'll get a refund rather than a cert after a frustrating wait.

As Stan suggests, let the GRO sort it out.
