St Alphage,Greenwich,Kent, & Canterbury, Kent Parish Record
« on: Sunday 13 April 14 04:54 BST (UK) »
Hi guys

I am not overly familiar with English records and was wondering how I would go about obtaining copies of the parish records for the following: -
St Alphage, Greenwich, Kent: -

Dorothy Robinson Bap Date Apr 25 1807
Eliza Robinson Bap Date Mar 08 1809
Thomas Robinson Bap Date Dec 07 1810

and

Canterbury, Kent, England

Margaret Robinson Bap Date May 29 1814

Thanks in advance

Jon

Hi

You can order some of these copies from the LDS free of charge using the information from the familysearch web site  https://familysearch.org/search
eg Dorothy
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NL24-K38

The form for photo duplication request is on this page
https://familysearch.org/blog/en/policy-change-patrons-requesting-photocopies-family-history-library-salt-lake-city-utah/

They take about 4 weeks to arrive.

I see that Dorothy's quotes 3 film numbers you only need one of these.  You can check whether they are parish registers or bishops transcripts by putting the film number on here

Rosie

Thank you very much for that. I wasn't aware of the facility.
What is the significance between Parish Registers or Bishops Transcripts?

The Parish register is what is says,  Bishops transcripts are the copy of the parish register that is sent to the Bishop.  Sometimes in copying the information the BT's can be wrong, though there is nothing to say that the clergy got the information right to start with.  :)

Personally if I have been requesting a marriage copy from the LDS I have tried to get the parish register copy as it normally has original signatures where applicable. Obviously this does not apply to christenings/burials.

You can order up to 5 copies a month.

Hi Jon

Also check out your local library to see if they offer free access inhouse to Ancestry library edition.

The St Alfege registers have been deposited at the London Metropolitan Archives and their records have been digitised, transcribed and put online.
