Usually if no father is named on a birth cert, then the child was illegitimate.

If the mother has not named the childs father on any surviving document ( eg birth cert or christening) then you will never know who he was.
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Hi,

He will have been born illegitimate, as you are no doubt aware aged 2 in 1861 Census
he was living with his Grandparents Thomas & Elizabeth and continues to live with them
until his marriage.

If there is no Father named on the Civil Birth Reg. Certificate, you are very unlikely
to find who his Father was.

Who was his mother, did she eventually marry?

On baptism record mother Elizabeth is described as "single woman"
