Richard Worker & Mary Riddy
« on: Monday 21 April 14 11:52 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Has anyone got either Richard Worker or Mary Riddy in their family tree?  This couple married on the 21st February 1780 at Wooton by Bedford.  I am trying to find the baptisms of this couple but can find no trace of them before their wedding.  Any help would be much appreciated ???

Were both otp on marriage, or was a different parish of residence shown for either of them? Do the witnesses provide a clue?

Hi,
Thank you for replying to my query.  I am sorry that I don't know which parish either of them were from, or who the witnesses were.  The only info I have is the date & place of marriage and that they had a son called John baptised there 3 months later. I cannot find any more children born to them in Wooton or find either of them being baptised in Bedfordshire and wondered if they may have been travelling from one county to another for work.  Sorry that I can't be more helpful.  Regards.

I'd check Wootton parish register microfilm at your nearest LDS Family History Centre for the marriage entry. As Freereg has transcribed them as Michael Worker and Mary Middy I'd also check their names.

When you're stuck, as you are, you need to check all original documents.

David

Hi David,
Thanks for your input regarding the marriage of Ric Worker and Mary Riddy.  I have seen the free reg. transcription and know that they have it as Michael Worker & Mary Middy but I am sure that it is Ric as on his sons baptism it states Ric & Mary.  Can only assume that the vicar had a flamboyant hand and that his 'R's could look like 'M's.  Many thanks.

The Wootton PR transcript has the marriage on 21 Feb 1780 of Richard Worker & Mary Riddy. There is no other detail. A Richard & Mary Worker then baptised son John there on 2 Apr 1780. My knowledge of FreeReg is that they transcribe from these transcripts rather than the original marriage records so how they have it wrong is a mystery.

These are the only Riddy & Worker names in the Wootton transcript up to 1812 apart from marriage on 8 Dec 1808 of William Mees to Mary Worker, again no other details; she's not down as widow and there's not burial of Mr Worker. .

Hi,
I have for some time tried to unravel this family.  One of the problems is that they moved above quite a bit so consequently there are only few bits of information on each parish register.  I can't find any more information about Richard & Mary but have found John (Son) marrying Sarah Willingham on 11th Oct. 1808 at Harlington, Bedfordshire.  I think that they remained there as I have them on the 1851 census and John died  later that year (3rd quarter 1851 Woburn reg. area).  I can't find the deaths of either Richard or Mary (his parents) so I feel that I have hit a brick wall with this couple.  Thank you for what you have done,  I appreciate any help.
