A pupil teacher in Bristol 1891
« on: Monday 21 April 14 15:29 BST (UK) »
Hi, can anyone offer any help or guidance please?

I discovered my great grand aunt Rosina (or Rose) Thompson was a pupil teacher in the 1891 census in Bristol.  She was born in 1869 so was recorded as 21 in this census living at home with her parents Edward and Elizabeth (my 2 x great grandparents).  Edward was a licensed victualler presumably in a pub where they were living in Victoria Road in Bristol.

I've tried searching for a marriage or death between 1891 - 1901 however I've been unable to trace Rosina after the 1891 census but would like to know, if possible, whether she carried on teaching or married.

Many thanks
Sue

An online tree has her marrying in 1908 to a William James Parsley, in Axbridge, but they don't have an actual date for the marriage, so I don't know whether they know, or it's just a guess.  That Rosina dies in 1939 in Wrington.

Can't find her in 1901 though.

Possible marriage:

William James Parsley and Rosina Thompson
September quarter 1908  Bristol  volume 6a  page 292

There may be other Rose/inas though so the marriage certificate would be needed to make sure this is the right one.

Hi - thank you both, that looks a strong possibility.  Strange there's no trace of her in 1901 though. I'll look back a bit earlier again just in case there's another Rosina Thompson this marriage could refer to.  The only way to confirm it is by the marriage certificate, it's a shame the Bristol parish records are not more readily available online.

Many thanks!

I think this Rosina is the one who marries Mr Parsley.

In 1901 William Parsley is a market gardener, so more likely he meets a green grocer's daughter in the course of his business than a pupil teacher.

Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
