The 1841 census for Alnwick has Narrowgate Street, South Side.

Which was the south side ?

Was not aware that it had a south side. If you start at the Castle I think it runs from N to S then bends around to SE as it goes towards Bondgate Within. That might make the south side the bit between Fenkle St and Pottergate, but that is just a guess on my part.

Thanks Craclyn.

I didnt think that either side looked like the south side either, as you say it pretty much runs N-S.

Enumeration district 10 which says: All that part of Narrowgate Ward in the town of Alnwick on the south side of Narrowgate street, from Market Ward to Washburn Cottage, including Pottergate Place and Barndale House.

Pottergate is on the south western end of Narrowgate. The existing Barndale House appears to be full west of Narrowgate, so the south side of Narrowgate looks like the west side.

Unless someone knows better ?

Pottergate is not at the end. It is still Narrowgate as you swing round the bend after Pottergate. Bondgate within starts a bit further along.
