St. Stephen's Church marriage records
« on: Tuesday 22 April 14 17:29 BST (UK) »
hi, does anyone have access to St. Stephen's Church marriage records. The Church was on the corner of Rutland St and Roberts St,but demolished in the 1970's (in Grimsby).

The marriage I am trying to find was between Leonard Harper and Annie Rogers.  I am sorry I only have the 1/4, which was March 1/4 of 1923.

Thanks in advance for any help.

According to Lincolnshire Archives, the registers for St Stephens (and St Johns) are held at the Archives under New Clee.

Thanks very much for the information.  I will contact the archives or perhaps take a trip on the train.

Hello, I have the disc for the Grimsby Church of England marriages which includes St Stephen's Church.
I cant find a Harper/Rogers marriage in any one.

Are you sure they married in a church and not a registry office?

But maybe this marriage has just been missed of the disc that I have, and this is why I am unable to find it for you..sorry.

Hello,  Thank you so much for all the trouble you have gone to, searching for this couple.

Their daughter, who is now age 90, isn't positive that they were married in Church, but she says that their Parish Church at the time was St. Stephens, so that's why I thought I would ask about that.  It looks as though they were married in the Registry Office after all, but I appreciate very much, all the work that you have done for me.

If you email the Archives and explain the situation they may well be prepared to check the St Stephen's register for you to confirm whether there is a marriage to be found. A copy of the PR entry will cost you though.  :)

And/or, some libraries offer so many minutes free 'research', and Grimsby library may be prepared to search the local paper(s) for a wedding announcement/article. The good thing is that weddings were usually on the same page each week; the bad news is that with possibly 12/13 weeks to check the staff may run out of time.

Sometimes though it's easier and cheaper in terms of time, and eventually money, spent to just buy the marriage certificate in the first place.  ;D
