A place in Suffolk called Shiryton??
« on: Thursday 24 April 14 17:14 BST (UK) »
Familysearch has a baptism for a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Tipple in a place transcribed as Shiryton in Suffolk. I can't find this place on a map and there don't seem to be any other baptisms there, so it sounds like the transcriber's best shot at a faded /damaged / almost illegible record. Has anyone any suggestions what this place might be?
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

What era?
Can you find any Tipples in a census to see where they generally hail from?

JUst had a go - put Tipple  and Suffolk into search for 1841 census
See there are several in Sapiston - could it be that? Or maybe Sth Elmham?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

The baptism is 1729, there are two others in the 1730s with parents Thomas and Elizabeth one in Stuston and one in Stainton, but it's only a guess that Shiryton could be one of those and it's the same Thomas and Elizabeth. Most of the Tipples at that time seem to be from Redgrave, Botesdale and Rickinghall. The Tipple family at South Elmham seem to start with a Thomas born abt 1730 and could possibly be the 1734 Stuston baptism, if his family got his age at burial a bit wrong.  As the "Shiryton" baptism is the earliest it might give a clue as to where Thomas and Elizabeth were from.

The three records that you mention all appear on the films of Bishops transcripts C of E Archdeaconery of Suffolk but they have different film numbers.  I would send off for the copy of the record, that way you can see for yourself what it says. (You could request all three)  Its a free service and although they state records can take 4-6 weeks the last couple I have had have been under 4 weeks.

Thank you for sending that link. I couldn't work out from the LDS site how to order copies, although I have done it once before, I had forgotten how I did it!

Have just sent for them, hope it will make more sense when I see the image.
