Recycling BMD Certificates
« on: Saturday 26 April 14 00:36 BST (UK) »
Ever ordered the wrong B, M or D certificate?

It seems such a waste to bin them.

Is there a way or place to recycle or donate them to the right person such as a site where you can post them up for free?

You can also put the details as a 'postem'  on freebmd this means anyone searching for the GRO registration will see it
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

You have to select the record it relates to and click the spectacles alongside the entry.
You may add a postem to this entry  appears on the left of the page just above the View the original illustration

ADDED You can also enter the details from the certificates you have that you don't want to get rid of.

Some local history societies also accept donations of unwanted certificates, which they will list on their website.

Every BMD I have (including the wrong 'uns) has been entered with a Postem on FreeBMD

I have kept all of my BMDs which has helped me from ordering further wrong ones.

Postems are fantastic and a great help to other Family Historians.  It is up to the individual how much info the put but I do:

Birth: DOB and Parents Names (including Mothers Maiden Name)

Marriage:  On both Bride and Groom - DOM - and Fathers Names and ages of couple

Death:   DOD and name of informant and if informant was a relative.

I love it when I go to FreeBMD and find a record I am looking for has a Postem.

Plummiegirl, as a matter of interest, do many people contact you to have these passed on to them?
