New to Irish Records
« on: Sunday 27 April 14 23:52 BST (UK) »
While I have researched USA records for 30+ years, I am new to Irish records and I would appreciate any suggestions for finding information on my great, great grandparents in Ireland records.

My great grandmother was Margaret Keogh born 20 Dec 1861 in Tipperary (died 29 Sept 1916 Cambridge, England) (married Thomas William Furniss 29 Sept 1882 while he was in UK military at Tipperary).

I would like to know more information about HER parents: James Keogh and Mary Burke of Tipperary.  I do not know their date/place of birth or anything about them.  James Keogh and Mary Burke had the following children:
Catherine 12 May 1856
Bridget 15 Feb 1859
Margaret 20 Dec 1861  my great grandmother  (used nickname "Maggie")
Mary 29 May 1864
Elizabeth 6 May 1867
Michael 6 July 1871

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

First find their marriage. This looks likely https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FY71-6YQ
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FY71-QY7
A research cert can be ordered from the GRO, see this thread on Ireland Resources board for info on how to do this. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=599538.0
This should give you a better address, and increase your chance of finding info on her parents.

Did the other children stay in Ireland, if so you can search the 1901 and 1911 census for them free here

Looks like Michael was born on the 5th https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FPTM-T3P
Likely his birth cert which could prove useful https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FYBN-DQ9

You would need to check by getting the Certs of course but by using the info on Michael's birth above I used RootsIreland and found one match in Tipperary South, worked through the parishes and found this one record is in Tipperary civil parish, using that info I searched Griffith's Valuation and found
James Keogh
 Bohercrow Street,
Townland- Bohercrow
Parish - Tipperary
Union - Tipperary
Barony - Clanwilliam
County Tipperary, South Riding.

Bohercrow is on the Limerick Road just outside Tipperary town.

Your welcome, but I'm just making use of all the free records kindly provided by others, it's up to you now to prove it one way or the other.

I completely understand that and plan to go back to original sources for verification. However, the help this group has given me has been very valuable because it gives great ideas on where to search....saving me a lot of time and effort. Thank you.
