Cannot trace marriage ?

Would anyone tell me why I cannot trace a marriage, that is supposed to have taken place on 19th October 1946, Dunfermiline,  between a Rowland Lewis and a Violet George, Rowland was serving in the Navy, at the time ?

Have you checked Scotlands People?  http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Marriage 1946 in Dunfermline Fife on the site but  you would have to buy/order the cert - Edited as they could be alive
