Uniform?
« on: Wednesday 30 April 14 22:57 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I was wondering if anybody may be able to tell me a little more about the uniform in this photograph, a relative mentioned that he could be abt 16 when this picture was taken and he was in the army during WW1. I would like to find out more about him and wondered if this photograph may hold some information that could help.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Fran  :)

Hi Fran

The cap badge has been badly over painted. But it looks like one of the light infantry regiments.

If you post his name, place and date of birth someone will check WW1 records for you.

Ken

hi fran
the only morgan Clarke I can see was in the Northumberland fusiliers  army no 22339  rank sgt , there,s no service record only the medal index card .
out of curiosity have you found a birth record for him only all I can find is his marriage and death details .
who has the photo you posted only I wonder if it could be cleaned up enough to see if the cap badge matches to the Northumberland fus ?.

Hi Trevor,

Thank you very much for the post.  :)

I have him on a 1891,1901 and 1911 Census and I also have his marriage and death. I have tried to use the census below as a starting point to find him:

1891   4147/27/47

2 Clarendon Street Southwick Durham

John Clark 40 yrs limestone quarryman b Sunderland
Harriet 38 yrs b Darlington
Thomas L 16 yrs. ironworks labourer
Jonathan 14 yrs.     -do-
Ellen 12 yrs
Morgan 7 yrs
Margaret 4 yrs
John 2yrs
Robert 1 month b Southwick

I have found a birth that could be his sister Ellen (Eleanor) in 1 Nov 1883 - Cockerton, Darlington.
Again,Jonathan (John) I have found a birth record that may be him. I believe that this could be a birth for Morgan https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/2XLF-6YX

A relative of mine had the image on something similar to cardboard and a while ago got it made into this. The cardboard image wasn't in the best condition however on my next visit I will get a copy of the original because perhaps a better version could be made.

She was reading a newspaper article recently and thought that this could be Morgan so I am trying to establish if it may be him in the photograph by trying to find out about his uniform. She would like to know more about him. She had a really strong feeling about this so I thought it couldn't be wrong to have a little look ;D.

This is the article http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/search-relatives-gateshead-ww1-soldier-7039322.

The caption underneath the photograph
The sergeants of the 11th Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers at Bramshot in 1915. Could this photo contain the image Sgt David Blakey, from Felling, Tyneside, who’s body has been found 98 years after his death in France.

I do hope they find relatives for Sgt David Blakey.

Much appreciated,

Fran
