Perhaps they don't call them certs but they have images of parish records - which has the same info as the certs that you buy. :)

cheers,
   Ros

adding : reading through the long thread again  :o I gather that the marriage info is the same, but family search has baptism and burial records rather than birth and death records which may not contain the same info.
And also that there is live chat help on family search to help complete the form properly.

Hi

I think you need someone with Irish knowledge to help but my understanding is that what jjjjjim is looking at on Familysearch is the Civil Registration index which is the Irish equivalent of the GRO Index in England & Wales, and the various Australian States Birth Marriages and Deaths indexes, generally you need to contact the relevant government department to obtain a birth certificate. Familysearch can only supply copies of documents they have filmed which generally are from Church records held at various archives.

Through the Wiki on Family Search I requested a copy of the actual birth registration. I was advised that the information I had was not sufficient and only related to an index.

The answer is in the original post.

Irish birth certificates can't be obtained from Family Search they are not parish records. Family Search website does have index records but they don't have the actual birth records. In the UK and Republic of Ireland births are registered at the local register office and the records are held by local and national offices. They are not available to be viewed or copied by individuals or organisations. Copies of these records however can be bought from the local or national register offices.

Yes unfortunately it appears that Irish parish records contain less information - it has examples of both parish baptismal and civil birth records here
 https://www.rootsireland.ie/index.php?id=samplerecords#baptism

And there is less recorded on Irish parish marriage records and parish burial records than on civil records.

What a shame ...

Apologies Sinnan  :)
cheers,

Don't use RootsIreland if there is a Civil Birth Cert available from the GRO.
RootsIreland only has transcribed ( often incorrectly) records and no original images.
It's a useful site but HANDLE WITH CARE.

The mix up occurred Ros between Baptisim and Civil Cert.
I should have explained better that the index for Civil Certs for Ireland is on FamilySearch while in the UK you go to FreeBDM for the index. That can cause confusion.
One can get over familiar with resources you use regularly. :o

Now after all that
There is a baptism for Margaret which could be ordered from FamilySearch
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FRW1-W86

And this is Margaret in the Index for the Civil Cert
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FYPF-H47

Which explains why the information in the original post looked odd, it's a mix of the two results.

The births and baptisms record looks like it has come from an index. Family Search say this about the collection:-

"This index is an electronic index for the years 1620 to 1881.

It is not necessarily intended to index any specific set of records. This index is not complete for any particular place or region. This collection may include information previously published in the International Genealogical Index or Vital Records Index collections."

Another reason for thinking the record may not be available is the number 418 on the Family Search births and baptisms record just before the birthplace. This number appears as the page number on the civil record. No harm giving it a go. Try ordering using the details below:-

FHL Film Number: 101102
Margaret Fahey
Ireland Births and Baptisms, 1620-1881, Father: Patrick, Mother: Anne
Christening
27 Feb 1865
Abbeyleix, Queens, Ireland
