Help with a West Derby marriage needed please.
« on: Tuesday 13 May 14 10:45 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm, returning to research on my family tree after a very long lay off and I was wondering if anyone could help me with details of a marriage which took place 2Q 1841.  It was between William Birkett and Elizabeth Robertson, West Derby Lancashire.  It also says Vol 20   P.698    Line No 128.  I have become seriously rusty and have forgotten so much  :-\  Any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks.

Hi Kay,

Wow......Now I'm in a pickle  :-\   The Burnett Family are the reason I gave the family research a rest.  I was getting absolutely nowhere at all.....BUT....then I was given a glimmer of hope.  I honestly don't know where to start....I'll try to be brief  ::)

My Gx2 Grandfather was called William Burnett (son of the above mentioned William).
On my Gx2 Grandfathers wedding certificate to Annie Maria Alma Burnett (1877).....he was listed as a Railway Guard, a widower and his father was William Burnett, Lieutenant in the 11th reg of foot.

A marriage was found in Scotland 28 October 1870 to an Elizabeth Easton.  She died a couple of years later.  On the certificate William's occupation was Railway Guard and his father was William Burnett a Private in the 11th reg of foot.  His mother Elizabeth Burnett (maiden name Robertson).

Well even by my reckoning....I wouldn't have thought that his father could be promoted so quickly through the ranks.....but at this time that isn't too important.
It seems to me though that we have the same groom for both marriages.

I was just trying to go a bit further back though to see WHERE my Gx2 Grandfather was born.  The census says Liverpool but I've never found a birth there but I did get the actual dob (25 March 1849) from the railway records.  I have also only ever found him on the 1871 (Scotland) and 1881 (England) census in Normanton.  His family are listed on the later census but he is missing......no death found either.

I hope I haven't confused you too much.  Thank you for taking an interest in this ongoing enigma.

Sorry I forgot to mention that whilst looking up Elizabeth Robertson......I came across this marriage and thought Birkett was probably Burnett mispelt......also the Liverpool connection mentioned as the birthplace of my Gx2 Grand father in the 1881 census. :-[

Hi Jan,  Yes it is actually Burnett that I'm interested in.  There was a previous post from 2011 in Occupation interests; Railway Records that gives a lot of information.  If I can find out how to send you the link I will.
