Edward Howard Walker
« on: Saturday 24 May 14 10:51 BST (UK) »
Trying to trace the family or anyone who knew Edward Howard Walker.  We know from his registration card that he joined the Police Reserve in January 1939 and resigned in March 1946.  He was based in Kensington in F Division during this time.  Unfortunately after all the avenues suggested by a visit to the Archives at Kew this is the only information that is available. I therefore thought there might just be someone on Roots who may be able to help.

Do you have an address for him, or a date of birth?

No nothing unfortunately, only the information I have given.  No other info was ever entered apparently on the Registration Cards for Police Reserves during the war.  Hence the difficulty in trying to track the family down.  Posting on here was my only hope of perhaps finding someone who knew him or his relatives.

Welcome :)

Have you ruled out the Edward Howard Walker born in Islington in 1905, per FreeBMD?

Trouble is, if you know literally nothing about him other than what is on the card it will be hard to know if you have the right man even if information is found.

May we ask what is the reason for researching this mystery man? Sometimes having a bit of insight into the quest can generate ideas.

As avm228 says there was someone of than name born in Canonbury, Islington in 1905. There was also someone of that name who married Dorothea Evelyn Agnew in Kensington in 1926, and is listed in the London Electoral Registers in the 1930's.

On Ancestry there is a private tree that may be of interest. You could contact the tree owner

I have a list of gentlemen that I am working through at the moment.  I don't hold out much hope as I have already tried every avenue and contacted many places which might have held police records.  A long shot really but I was just hoping that perhaps someone who knew him or his family might be involved in family history and might visit the boards.

I am assuming that he was turned down for enlistment in the army so joined the police reserve as the next best thing.  He resigned in 1946 and probably went on to another profession or by that time was maybe passed retiring age.

The reason for this quest is that my uncle, a retired police officer, has been given a piece of memorabilia that belonged to this gentleman and he thought the family might like to have it if he could trace them !!!

How nice to go to such trouble to reunite the memorabilia with his family.

The private tree found by ShaunJ looks like your best lead at this stage.

Thank you for all your replies.  I will certainly try the tree on Ancestry and will let you know if I find the family.
