Harold Emery
« on: Thursday 29 May 14 02:55 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for Harold Emery, born 9 October 1905 in Wandsworth, London.  Son of Charles Arthur Emery and Lucy Agnes Croake, he attended an industrial school and then joined the army at the age of 14.  He didn't stay in the army very long, just over a year, his character it says was "bad".  Oh dear.  He left London for Adelaide on 17 May 1922 aged just 16, his occupation was given as "farming" but as he had never farmed anything in his life he was either telling a whopper or hoping to start a new life in Australia and have a go at something new.

So that's Harold.  Not a thing can I find about him after the passenger list listing him as going to Adelaide.  he doesn't have a second name so the Harold Emerys with middle names are out.  :-\

Where on earth did he go?  Can anyone help?

Cheers

Deb Harold may have been one of the Barwell Boys.

The 'Barwell Boys' immigration scheme was launched in 1922 by Sir Henry Barwell, then premier of South Australia, to bring youths from England to be indentured to farmers aiming to replace men killed during World War I

I wonder if this is the birth of his wife?  Only Myra Jemima on the South Australian birth  indexes and Australian Electoral Roll.

Painter, C. Hall, E. Manuel, W. Gehrs, and T. Berry. Bourke Ward Old Scholars' Association, Workers Industrial Union of Australia, and Musicians' Union, were represented.

No mention of wife in the death or in memoriam notices.

When Harold EMERY enlisted on 1 Jun 1940, Myra was his NOK.  His death registration shows her name to be Myra Jemima although they were divorced in 1949.  South Australian Marriage Index only extends to 1937.
