married catherine spencer 30th jan 1828 liverpool prescot

do not know how to find info on captains master mariners

Searching for captains before 1845 is always difficult as no formal registration records were kept before that date.
However, I can find a M Rothwell as master of the Liverpool Registered vessel BOOTLE in 1831

I don't know if the M stands for Mathew. You will note BOOTLE was owned by Bibby and co.
The records of Bibby and co are stored in Liverpool.

Do you have his baptism from the Lancs OPC site? There are also baptisms for siblings Mary 1792 and John 1796
