She marries James calvert in 1833 she is not widwed till 1881census.

My question is where is her husband James on all the cenusus returns?

Also i can't find this family on the 1871.

Thank you so much!

I am confused as to when her husband died because the 1851 says widow but then the 1861 says married! The youngest child was born 1853.

If he had died before 1851 then it's only the 1841 cenusu he's missing from?

Confused!

Beat me to it!

There could be many reasons why the husband isnt show - seperated/in the army/in prison/working away

My great grandmother never appears on any census with her husband because they seperated and I had another relative whos husband never appeared but she kindly noted on the one census that he was 'working on the railway in India' (he died there too)

Hi,

Yes, James' occupation is given as weaver on his son George's marriage cert from 1861, it doesn't state that James is deceased.

There is a big gap* between sons Warton 1836 and William 1847.  I wonder whether there was a marriage breakdown sometime after the birth of Warton (as you say, James is not seen with the family in 1841) and the later children were fathered by someone else?

*Of course there is a possibility that there were other children born between these two but who did not survive to a census date - do the parish records help out on this?
