These may be available at Australian public Libraries. Certainly in Canberra, probably Melbourne.. Umm where are you located? If your outside OZ then one of us may be able to look it up for you on their next trip to town?

I did search for your Alfred WILCOX/WILLCOX in the 1875 directory and his name does not appear.  If he was not the owner/occupier of a property his name will not appear in either the S & M or PO directory.  The directories do not list all the occupants of a property.  He may have been lodging with others.

Just found that my local library had the Directories on microfiche.
There a few Joseph Burgess listed. NOTE: no middle name recorded.

1876 - 1878 - 20 Victoria Street, Windsor

1877 - 1880 - Levenson Street, Hotham (this maybe  'LEVESON')

1876 - 1878 - Burgess Bros - Fruiterers & Grocers - Nelson St, Windsor.

1880  - Joseph Burgess - 136 Buckhurst St, Emerald Hill

1881 - Joseph Burgess - 10 Canning St, Carlton.

Just a note to advise that I am a direct descendent of Alfred Luker Willcox and his wife Constance.

As a new user, I cannot contact you by email.

I could not find any places of residence or work in Melbourne either, nor names on a shipping list to New Zealand.
