Rann Broker
« on: Sunday 15 June 14 17:58 BST (UK) »
According to the 1911 census for West Derby my great grandfather was William Stirrup he was a Rann Broker, I assume this should be Rand Broker. William was to my knowledge was a pawn broker in Scotland Rd, Liverpool. Is there a link between a Rann Broker and a Pawn Broker, or is the occupation more to do with banking. My uncle worked for the Bank of South Africa until he retired, is there a history of South African banking in Liverpool, if so where could I find out more.

Regards

Steve

Hi,

Welcome RootsChat.  :)

Rann Broker is probably a badly transcribed Pawn Broker.  ;)

On checking the census record again, I can see the transcribing error.

Thanks for your response, this ends this post
