Gaute Mittbourne
« on: Sunday 22 June 14 08:13 BST (UK) »
Hi. I am doing research into a Gaute Mittbourne who resided in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in or around the 1930/40's.  He married a Lady with the nee name Brandon.
I can find no trace of him on either Ancestry or FindMyPast.
Would anyone have any idea where this name could have originated from?

Agree with Sandra. Probably originated in Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Iceland. Since it has not been anglicised it may be worth looking at immigration records for him or for his parents generation.

This Gaute Midtbøen, born 1843, could be one of the ancestors he left behind in Tinn:

Have just taken another look at the travel records and see that Knut Mitbøen 1903 and Olav Midtbøen 1907 were on the same ship as Gaute, so these are possibly his brothers.

Lists also show an Arnfind Gautes. (Gauteson?) Midtbøen also from Tinn who travelled to USA in 1911. Could be worth looking into whether he stayed there or went on to Canada and these three lads came out to join him. He could be their father or uncle.
