I thought I had my family tree accurately sorted out, but now I`m not too sure. Not being able to obtain Birth & Marriage certificates prior to 1831 is part of the problem, and I have real problem finding and understanding Parish Records/English counties etc.
So I`d appreciate a little help/advice.
I`ll start with what I know and work back.
My Grandfather (according to my late father), was William Lee, Born Dec 1 1874 in Shropshire, and his father was James Lee b 1837 in Little Sutton, Cheshire, and his wife’s name was Ann Lee (Maiden name Lee). I ordered their marriage certificate and found it strange that they married in Lincolnshire, but she may have been born in Lincolnshire which could explain it.
Their Marriage certificate shows James`s father as Peter Lee, but no mothers name, but the 1841 census for the family gives her name as Elizabeth Here is where the doubt creeps in.
Through researching I determined that Elizabeth`s maiden name was Jones b 1814 in Cheshire,
Assuming that was correct I discovered that Peter`s father was James Lee, b Oct 9 1776 , married to Elizabeth Humphries,b1777, and that is as far back as I have gone at this stage.
My assumption was that most if not all had been born in Cheshire, but after discovering that James and Ann had married in Lincolnshire, and my Grandfather William had been born in Shropshire, I then discovered other James & Peter Lee`s in those areas with wives of similar names. And that is why I`m questioning my research. And of course I cannot purchase BMD records that go back into the 1700`s.
Any help /advice on where I should research next would be appreciated. Hopefully I haven`t confused everybody!
