Lord Derby's , Valet

HI my great Uncle Herbert ( Hubert , his employers changed it ) was Lord Derby's Valet and travelled abroad with him. He was born in 1880 so I reckon this must have been around 1920's .  I know the Stanley seat was Knowsley Hall . How do I get access to staff records ?

If Herbert /Hubert was locally born he may be on www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html    what was his surname ??
