Hello Sylvia
We need an address for a look up in 1841 as there is no name index.  Do you have one from the birth certificate of Mary Ann Amelia?

Sylvia
I am quite surprised by this but they do not seem to be in Camden Street.  When was Mary Ann Amelia born?  Was  the informant one of her parents? Perhaps they moved shortly before or after her birth?
I looked out for a family of Harris in case Mary Ann had gone home to mum to have the baby but only found a 12 year old Harris girl - no occupation stated. but looks like she is a servant. I also looked carefully at the names of the 2 butchers I found but they were definitely not Letley.
I must admit I did have the same problem with one of my families moving very close to a birth.
For the record, the refs I checked are 1064 10 f39-47 which cover all Camden Street (follows on from East Street) in Lambeth, St Mary Newington. The 1841 has few house numbers and there were none in Camden Street so I can't even tell you who was in the house.
If I have got the wrong area let me know. My geographical knowledge of South London is even worse than that of North of the Thames.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry Barbara, :-[  Mary Ann Amelia was born in October 1841..AFTER the census of that year. I would still have expected her parents to be somewhere in the area though.
There are a lot of Letleys in Kent so maybe they didn't move to London until just before she was born?

This is the birth I have on Mary Anne Amelia Letley:

Registration district St Mary Newington
Birth in the Sub-district of St Peter, Newington in the County of Surrey
No. 250 - Twenty Second of October 1841, 8am, at 31 Camden Street, East Street - Mary Ann Amelia - Girl - father, John Henry Letley - mother, Mary Ann Letley formerly Harris - father's occupation, Butcher - informant, Mary Ann, the mark of Mary Anne Letley 31 Camden St East St. - registered, third December 1841 - George Gill L....? registrar

Thanks for trying for me anyway, I'm sure they'll turn up somewhere

Hello Sylvia
Looks like I did look up the correct address. :)
Do you know when the parents were married? This could possibly give another address to try. Alternatively, perhaps the family can be found at a later date which would give you the names of other children.
In fact, just had a look at the 1861 and there is a William Letley, Butcher born Maidstone with wife Mary and 2 sons.  They are in Bethnal Green.  There is also Gideon Letley in Southwark - another butcher born Aylesford Kent plus family.
If you want more details of these let me know.

Thanks Barbara
I have been in touch with someone who has the Letleys in Kent, but nothing seems to match up. There must be a connection with them somewhere though as several of them are butchers.

The odd thing is though that on Mary Ann Amelia's wedding cert if gives her father as Charles...which also isn't helping much. I do know she was only 17 and very pregnant so maybe she lied about her father's name??? Who knows??

Hi

I'm doing a bit of housekeeping and noticed this older request.  Are you still looking for this information or resolved in the meantime?  If you're still after the information, any other details come to light that might help find them?

Regards
Biker  :)

Hi Biker
I'm still at this head banging brickwall with this lot.
Hoping against hope that once ancestry get the 1841 online that I'll be able  to do a name search for them.  :-\
