I think you'll need their marriage cert.
Jul-Aug-Sep 1908
Registration district:
Dublin South
Volume:
2
Page Number:

William O'Brien is a very common name & there's nothing showing for Genevieve.

Hi anglokiwi

You mention you have details of William and Genevieve's 1911 census entry. Is this their entry?

There is this possible 1901 census entry for Genevieve http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Rathmines___Rathgar_East/Richmond_Hill/1294103/

In 1911, this may also be this same family, with head of house a James Fitzpatrick www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Rathmines___Rathgar_East/Mountpleasant_Avenue__Lower/58855/ Mary Fitzgerald showed as married in 1901. Daughter Frances' age seems a little younger than it should be by 1911...and George doesn't show on that 1901 above. However, this family seem to be in the same area by now in 1911 as Genevieve O'Brien/Fitzgerald (Mountpleasant Avenue Lower). Possibly next door to each other? Re 52.1 and 52.2 ref on census entries.

As Jim mentioned above, the only way to be certain is to check details on that 1908 marriage that has been mentioned.

Thanks for confirming that, Sinann  :) Looks promising then for at least Genevieve's family...

hi monica, jim and sinaan.  thankyou for the tips.  yes the 1911 census is one and the same monica.  not sure about the 1901 as that name is fitzpatrick not fitzgerald.  are you thinking there is a mistake in names?  perhaps the fact that james fitzgerald lived in the same building in 1911, could mean that william met genevieve this way?  he may be her father?  many thanks, anglokiwi

I can't help thinking Genevieve is not her first name but the one she preferred, her parents may not have used it on the census, I would get that marriage Cert Jim posted.

That Census return clearly says Fitzpatrick and is signed clearly by the mother.
