Woman's Land Army armbands. Thought I'd share
« on: Sunday 13 July 14 19:25 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

We've been having a bit of a sort out at mums and we found these.  They were my nan's armbands from when she was in the Woman's Land Army in Wollaston during WW2.

Was quite interested in whether there was a reason as two why they were slightly different?

Looks like the badges you got at Brownies and had to sew on, so it will be interesting to watch your answers as some will know the details

That's exactly what me and mum said.  I wondered whether when you got so many triangles you got a new armband.

Green woollen cloth armband with machine embroidered red King's crown over 'WLA' . Crown is flanked by hollow diamonds containing solid diamonds divided vertically in two, there is also a sewn on red cloth triangle bearing a smaller embroidered green triangle. Each half diamond represents six months service so the armband as issued represents two years with the additional diamond another six months. Fastened by two fawn coloured plastic buttons.
