Asquith - Can't find them in 1891
« on: Tuesday 15 July 14 18:37 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I wonder if someone could help me.  I'm trying to find a family called Asquith in 1891.  The main person is a Stella Asquith B: 1888.  She had a brother called Jesse Rackley Asquith 1890, sister called Hannah Kent Asquith B: 1887 and a brother called John Watt Asquith B: 1884.  Her parents were John Watt Asquith B: 1860 and Hannah Asquith (nee Rackley) B: 1863.

I have found them in 1901 and 1911, but not in 1891.  Stella was born in Durham in 1888, but it is interesting to note that she is noted as having been born in Southhamton, Hampshire in the 1901 census when she and her sister were in a home for waifs and strays.  Her other two brothers were in another home at that time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mo

A puzzle re 1891?   Do you have the birth cert of a child nearest to 1891 with an address?  Did the mother Hannah die in 1898 listed as Askwith?

Was this the death of another child also born in the same qtr?
Silvester Rackley Asquith  0    Sunderland Sept Qtr 1896    10a   338

Possibly another son:

Jonathan Asquith

Baptised:    10 Feb 1892
Deptford, Durham, England

Father:John Watt Asquith
Mother:Hannah

He can be found in a children's home in 1901 and on 1911 Census.

John Watt Asquith born 1860 is on 1901 Census, widowed and living with his mother at Hedley St, Sunderland. None of his children are with him. So maybe 1898 death of Hannah Askwith is John's wife :-\

Definitely off the map. Didn't even help searching the whole country for Stella As*

Any chance that they left the country for a while then came back again later?

Daughter Hannah was born in Southampton in 1886, so maybe they headed off somewhere by sea at some stage.
