'Bonnie' Carter Birth (Egypt?)
« on: Monday 21 July 14 15:43 BST (UK) »
My father has asked me to post this as he is searching for information concerning a first cousin of my grandmother (GM). My GM had a cousin called 'Bonnie' Carter but nothing is known as to what Bonnie was short for - this was obviously a nickname.

Bonnie had a brother called Eric Maurice C Carter (b. 10 Sep 1908 - d. 3Q 1982, Machynlleth, Wales), there parents were Willie (or William) and Dolly (again, could be a shortened name) Carter. We believe that Bonnie was a little older than his brother Eric.

It is possible that Bonnie Carter could have been born in Egypt, if this is so how could I trace these records?

Where is that? A quick google search mentions Afganistan and Persia (Iran)

Never heard of it, but I got the same as you from a google search. It does confirm your theory that the family travelled though.

I wonder whether we could help you trace this also from another angle.

If Bonnie and Eric are known to be first cousins of your grandmother, can you tell us the name of the linked person in your grandmother's family?  Was her father or mother a sibling of "Willie" or "Dolly"?  By tracing full names for these people, and possibly a marriage for Willie & Dolly, the other details may start to fall into place.

(Just by way of an example, Willie and/or Dolly may have left wills with their sons as executors, whose names would therefore be ascertainable).

Although doubtful it would be interesting if they had a connection to Lord Canarvon.

Does your resource state any other information about him (etc name/dob/place)?

The GRO overseas index gives very limited information:

Eric M C C Carter registered 1906-1910 Turbat-i-Haidari, page 2509.

There would be more information on the consular birth certificate which can be ordered from the GRO online using the above index information to complete their "Overseas Events" form.
