I live in New Zealand. I am researching a paternal branch of my family, some of whom came from Perthshire, Scotland. I am attempting to find a death date for Elizabeth WANLESS who m. Andrew BARCLAY abt 1819. They had 4 children (David b. 1819; Janet b. 1821; James Wanless b. 1823; Catherine Nicol b.1825). In 1830 Andrew BARCLAY m. Jean RITCHIE & there were 2 more chn by this marriage: Elisabeth b. 1831 & my gg grandmother, Georgina b. 1832.
It would appear that Elisabeth, #1 wife died but I cannot find a death record for her on Scotlands People. Today I did find a Scotlands People Perth Sherriff Court record which may be her. It is an Inventory of the Personal Estate of Elizabeth BARCLAY, stating that she d.18 Jan 1828 & was an 'inmate' (?) of Gray Cottage, Perth.
I'd really appreciate it if anyone can help with info re whether this cottage was a psychiatric institution or perhaps a poorhouse? Also what other resources could I use to find her death?
