The entry on Find a Grave gives names of his parents:  http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=3411727  Do you have any further information than that?  Is it the Kirtland branch that you're looking to follow?

His father's death record - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N7ZL-92G  An obituary for Thaddeus in the Army-Navy-Air Force Register and Defense Times says he was the son of Constant and Caroline (Carrington) Kirtland, who were also born in Wallingford, Connecticut.  Thaddeus served in the Civil War.

This appears to be Thaddeus' family in the 1850 census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M68P-PH8

This looks like Constant's birth record - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F74H-NHJ and his marriage - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F7GM-W82

There is an ancestry worth a look - goes back as far as
John Kirtland - Birth 1560 in  Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, England  and died 1616 in  Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire. His son Phillip Kirtland was the one that immigrated to the USA -  Birth 1585 in  Sherrington, Buckinghamshire, , England and died 1652 in  Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts.

In a book called History of Wallingford, Conn: From Its Settlement in 1670 to the Present Time, Including Meriden, which was One of Its Parishes Until 1806, and Cheshire, which was Incorporated in 1780, Volume 1, it says Isaac Kirtland, son of Constant Kirtland and Rachel (nee Brockett), married Sarah Ives.

In the book Genealogical and Family History of Northern New York: A Record of the Achievements of Her People in the Making of a Commonwealth and the Founding of a Nation, Volume 3, it says Constant, husband of Rachel Brockett, was the son of John Kirtland and Lydia Belden.  This book says John was born of John Kirtland and Lydia Pratt.  It says the elder John was the son of Nathaniel Kirtland who came from England on the ship "Hopewell" in 1635.

Hi selllyesq and Sandra

Thank you for you replies and sorry for not getting back sooner.

I am afraid that I am not in a position to give out any information re any Kirtland that originates from the USA. My enquiry stems from some family papers that my late uncle Roy Kirtland who was born in Windsor Berkshire in 1932 and lived there all of his life, ususlly being involved with horses in some way  until he died just a few months ago. Amongst these papers were the basic  details that I posted. There was no evidence of any linage to our family but I became curious to know if there was.

As for the questions Do you have any further information than that?

Our line goes back with a high degree of certainty to John Kirtland b. 1748 in or near Islip, Oxon. and baptised there 12 3 1748. Marrying Martha Honour at Charlton on Ottmoor on 22 FEB 1773.

I am less certain, but think  that John Kirtland b. 1748 may be   descended from John Cutland 1690 – 1750 and Mary nee Smith, via Paul Kirtland b.circa.1717, d. circa 1770.

re Is it the Kirtland branch that you're looking to follow?

I am not sure. I am unable to get any info on the USA kirtland's  Its getting late but I will dwell on his more in the future.

Thanks again :)
