surname confusion
« on: Wednesday 23 July 14 21:51 BST (UK) »
Hi Im trying to find birth information on Nancy Shackelford Baucquet.  born abt 1844, her fathers name was David. I know she married Henry Alfred Attrill in 1862.  I seem to have many different variations of her surname, most without Shackelford aswell.   Bueyuet, Bousquet, Bucquet, Baucquet and Buequet.  I have tried Ancestry and also familysearch to try and find a birth but with no luck.  could someone perhaps point me in another direction or have any advise on what I can do next? many thanks in advance Vicki :)

Have you found her in a census? That will give a parish of birth, which would narrow it down. Even better if you have her in two censuses, that way one will corroborate the other.

It might help if you tell us the various sources for the variations on the name that you have found so that we do not need to duplicate your effort.

they were all found on Ancestry.  On the marriage Banns its Bucquet, Bueyuet and her father is listed as Bousquet.  On the marriage index its Shackelford Baucquet.

Findmypast also has Shackleford Baucquet on the marriage index, so that is probably a good starting point for trying to figure out the rest. Have you ordered the marriage certificate?

I haven't ordered the marriage certificate, I wasn't sure it would give me anymore details that the Banns and Index already have.

Marriage Register, St Mary the Less, Lambeth (online)
7 October 1862
Henry Attrill, full age, bachelor, Engineer, 106 Vauxhall Walk. Father - George Attrill, Carpenter
Nancy Shackelford Boucquet, minor, spinster, 106 Vauxhall Walk. Father - David Boucquet, Cabdriver
after banns
Henry Attrill (signed), Nancy Shackelford Boucquet (marked)
witnesses Jasper Tuck (signed), Elizabeth Tuck (marked)

(The content of the civil marriage certificate, as provided by the GRO, should be identical to the above. The only difference is that the church marriage register shows the original signatures of spouses, witnesses and clergy.)
