Thomas Lee Rees
« on: Thursday 31 July 14 10:49 BST (UK) »
Looking for the names of five children who died as infants to Thomas Lee Rees and Ann Davies, many of which may have occurred in Llanwanno, Glamorganshire to 1890 or one or two in Bedwellty, Monmouthshire just after 1891 Census.

Some facts:
Thomas Lee Rees (23) married Annie Davies (24) on the 29th. March, 1879, at the Register Office, District of Swansea in the County of Glamorgan. Thomas Lee, a bachelor, was living in Union Street, Swansea and his occupation was that of a saddler. His father was named as George Manning Rees (deceased), watchmaker. Annie was a spinster  living at 6 Richmond Villas, Swansea, and with no occupation recorded. Her father was named as Silvanus Davies, a gardener. Witnesses were Thomas Avery and maybe Hannah of William Gear. The registrar was Jerimah David.

First child: George Llewellyn Rees b.p Q 1879 Swansea.

Some resources gives some high possibilities, based on the Rees family including Lee as a middle name in many lines. This was because Thomas Lee Rees' grandfather David Rees of Haverfordwest married Mary Lee and her sister Ann Lee from Watford, Northampton.

Unless baptismal entries can be found, you would need to purchase the birth or death certs for the children you name to establish parents names.

In the absence of any other birth or death entries with Lee as a middle name it would be an impossible task to determine the other children given the number of Rees birth and death entries on freebmd in Pontypridd between 1880-1890

Thank you David for your message.

No, I did not find a 1891 location for Thomas David Lee Rees, nor some possible abbreviations, which is a mystery.

If he was the child of Thomas Lee Rees, then you would expect him to be with his parents; or grandmother in 1891.

No, not with father and mother: -    1891 Census: RG 12 4358 6 p.5   Bedwellty, Monmouth  5 West End Terrace
His possible grandmother Martha Rees had died in 1887 at 22 Cemetery  Road, Aberdare, Glamorgan, so he was not with her.

On another positive side David, and to thank you, I had been also looking for his first cousin David Lee Rees b. 1877 Anglesey post 1911, and I had made a note of a 21 Cemetery Road, Aberdare, where he MAY HAVE died 23 Mar 1926. Maybe we have stumbled on a connection.

Thus, your response has opened up another clue for me.

Have you checked the burial records for Aberdare cemetery for the cousin and the potential grandmother. They usually have good info such as address and who registered the death. Might tie them together

Thank you David.

Yes, I have Martha Rees' grave photo and her daughter Emmeline Lloyd was buried adjacent.

No, I have not checked the burial for the David Rees who died 23 Mar 1926. I see that a Gazetted notice appeared of Jan 1927 naming his son as Thomas W. Rees, who had been trading as David Rees & Son.
