Look-up in local newspaper archive or burial register: 1942?
« on: Thursday 07 August 14 22:36 BST (UK) »
On 9 January 1942 a British bomber crashed near Tidworth Garrison with the loss of most of its crew and some others when its bomb load exploded.  Three were from the Royal Armoured Corps, probably from its local fire squad, and one of those was Trooper William McCaldon, whose burial was at Corsham (St Bartholomew) as recorded by CWGC.

I am trying to establish whether this man came from Liverpool, as he may be the person wrongly named on a provisional list of war dead made by a local vicar, who was not very accurate with his details.

If there is any generous person who could look for a report of this incident in a local newspaper archive or the church's burial register I should be very grateful.  I realise that reporting was very restricted in wartime.

Thank you
