FTM2010 - help emailing a report
« on: Sunday 10 August 14 13:33 BST (UK) »
I'm completely useless with new technology and desperately need some help with the 2010 version of FTM I've just had to (reluctantly) upgrade to. I have managed, after much swearing and hair pulling, to work out how to generate a genealogy report in the new all-singing, all-dancing format, but for the life of me can't figure out how to convert it to a PDF and email it, as I did in the original (2005?) FTM. The instructions in the help section are about as clear as mud to me, so I'd be grateful for any help whatsoever on this, as it's how I pass on new findings to distant family.

In the Publish workspace, display the report
Near the top right corner of the screen are two icons - Print and Share
Click on Share
Click on Send as PDF
The PDF file is saved to the hard disk and your email program is opened with the PDF file as an attachment.

If you just want to create the PDF file without sending it immediately, then click on Export to PDF. You could also experiment with the other output formats, namely CSV, RTF, HTML and Image.

You're not as useless as you think Geordie Daughter as I have also spent hours trying to figure it out.
I had to upgrade from 2005 to 2011.  I read the manual several times, but that might as well have been written in double dutch, and still couldn't find it.  I eventually found the share button that Fred mentioned and cracked it.

Fearless Fred, many thanks...you've saved my bacon and my sanity! (Apologies for the slow reply - what started out as a simple room swap for my two boys turned into a full-blown decorating spree, so I've been offline for a few days.)

Carol, you make me feel rather better, knowing that I'm not alone in struggling to make sense of computerese. I swear I should have been born in the Victorian era! The worst part was that I upgraded to Win 7 (hence the the newer version of FTM) just as Find My Past upgraded their website, so the first few days afterwards were stressful to say the least.

Glad to be of help Geordie Daughter.

I agree that the latest versions of FTM are quite daunting when first encountered, however frequent use and perseverance will pay off when you finally get the hang of the multitude of features available.

I have to grudgingly admit that some of the features in the newer version are rather useful, now that I'm getting used to them, for instance, the bit that tells you how you're related to someone else. It's just that they make the technical instructions for some of them so complicated....
