My first impression was obviously a "mason" with one of the funny long 's's but he doesn't do it with any other 's'  ??? Unless it was some strange slip of the pen  :-\

Have you seen it repeated elsewhere in the record?  :-\

Hi,

I thought Mason at first as well, but the 'n' at the end doesn't look like the n's at the ends of other words either, (son, born, jan etc.) I wonder therefore whether it could actually be Major as in the army rank?

Interesting thought, although unfortunately it doesn't look like an 'r' to me either! lol It does look a bit like the 'n' in Daventry though.

I suppose things might be best cleared up with another child's christening  :-\
