Morrie, that does look good. Thanks for doing that for me.

The photographer names looks like Shirey.

If you have the original photo, you could try doing a very gentle pencil rubbing over the stamp (using the edge of a soft pencil on a clean medium weight scrap of paper) to see if the word before "chambers" becomes legible.

I tried the pencil rubbing but it didn't work. The stamp is so faint, it's only when I scanned the photo I noticed any of it.
I have also tried various photo editing software to try to highlight it to no avail. My skills in this area are limited.

Hi PTdrifter. I have tried a search for a photographer named Slaney and for that matter Shirey but nothing so far has turned up for the early 1900s.

I have also tried searching Chambers as a place name but no luck so far.

This makes no sense, but I see the word as --crey. Possibly -lcrey. The first letter may be an L or an S, but I can also see letters formed into a kindof copperplate H.

Does not seem to make sense as a word though.

I agree with those who have said the writing below this is "something" chambers, likely to be an address.

I think the photographers name has the flowing initial 'S' or 'I' then 'L'or 'S'urey or 'L' or 'S'icrey with a flourish of the 'L' or S' flowing beneath the whole word to join the flourish on the 'y'.

I wonder if you can take a picture of the name while holding the photograph at an angle to maximise the contrast in light? Just as you need early morning or late evening sunshine to see the inscription on grave markers!!

ADDED - there is [probably by coincidence] a firm of photographers in USA called Lurey!!
