Hi,

It is against the rules of the site to name living people so it would be best if you removed the lady's name.  Privacy laws are quite strict in Canada, there is no BMD indexes as in the UK.
Your best bet would be to try searching Pages of the Past (the Toronto Star archives) to see if there is an obituary or other announcements. It is a pay site but you can purchase a subscription for very little per hour.  Here's a link to their website: http://pagesofthepast.ca/
Hopefully the obituary Canadian RootsChat expert Run Kitty might be able to find the obit for you  ;)

Hi,

Sandra is right, you need to look in the newspaper archives.  I had a peek.  His obit?? is in the Globe and Mail on Jan 23 and Jan 24 1956.

Fred A Smith.. died at Long Branch on Jan 22 1956.  Home was 96 27th street.  Husband of Ivy Rutler (or something like that... hard to read).  Father of L. E. at home (same name you have) AND I (Mrs G. M. Whiteside), Strathroy.  Brother of Rose Jeffries, Long Branch.  Uncle of B and F Jeffries.  Interment Glendale Memorial Gardens.

Does this sound like him?  Right sort of death date, Ivy mentioned, daughter L also mentioned.  Do the Jeffries fit?  What about Mrs Whiteside???  HMMM

Super!!  :) :)

I have altered my post to put initials instead of full names for the Jeffries boys... in case they are still living.
