For some reason I have not looked at this post since 2016. I think maybe because my e mail altered. Anyway Thank you Germah, we are definitely related and if you still look in could PM you with all I have found out about the various family members.

km1971 please excuse me for not replying to you and thanking you for the very interesting details on George.
I think various members of the family gave incorrect dates when joining the forces (could have been economic necessity). I am now finding details for a William McGuirk, brother of George, who joined the Navy in 1904 and gave his date of birth as 1886 when he was actually born in 1887. They didn't seem to cop this and I understand he was discharged dead in 1905! he was a stoker on HMS Vivid.
