20 February, 1917.  Lance Corporal Walter William Janes.  Aged 21 years.
He was in  the 1st/5th Gloucestershire Regiment and from his medal card had three numbers: 2165TF, 20481 and 242460.  He first entered France on 31/3/1915.
He died of wounds in France and Flanders and is buried in St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen.
My second cousin once removed Walter was born in Bristol about 1896.  He was the second son and third of ten children of Walter and Florence Colston (Bartlett) Janes.  In 1911 they were living at 2 Sandhurst Road Brislington.
