I know this is an old post but I am also related to the Laurie's.
My Grandmother was Olive Mary Laurie ( 1913 - 1964 ) dau of  Arthur Demaine Laurie And Annie Johnson
Arthur (1868 - 1942) was the son of  John Laurie and Susannah Demaine.
John Laurie (1842 - 1900) was the son of John Laurie and Mary Johnstone
John Laurie ( 1811- 1862 ) was the son of Robert Laurie and Jean Scott
I believe that Robert Laurie ( 1765? - 1843) was the son of John Laurie and Martha Steward.
I have not proved this latest link as yet but thy would be my 5 x great grandparents.

I think we were in touch many years ago when we discovered we were related through the laurie/lawrie family tree. I will pm you later with more info on our family tree.
