SAUNDERS family of Portsea/Landport
« on: Wednesday 29 June 05 13:35 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I looking for information regarding family of Henry James Saunders born 1858 Alverstock. Hants. On 1901 census he was in Liss, with wife Emily, sons William & Stephen, both born Landport (1894 & 1893) & daughter Grace. On 1891 census they were living in Portsea. I'm more interested in dates after 1901 rather than researching further back, in particular was son Stephen Henry Saunders a soldier ???

thanks for looking, John

Hi John,

My great-grandfather was Henry James Saunders, born in Alverstock, Hampshire, England, in 1857. He retired from the Royal Navy in 1896. His son, my grandfather, was Stephen Henry Saunders, born in Portsmouth in 1892, a soldier in the British army. His brother's name was William, born in 1893. In 1920, Stephen Henry emigrated to British Columbia, Canada, where my father, William Victor Saunders was born. I strongly suspect that my great-grandfather is the same individual about whom you are looking for information. Please post any further details you have gathered.

Kind regards,

James William Saunders

Hello James & welcome to RootsChat.

Thanks for contacting me.  I am looking for a Steven/Stephen Saunders who was a WW1 soldier, who was most likely living in (or had relatives nearby) Southsea Hampshire, in the years 1913-1918. They may be associated with the Henry VENN family in that area at that time.

I have sent you a PM regarding reasons.

Regards John
